Messages from Karen:
- I admit sometimes I forgot to communicate with you but that’s doesn’t mean all the things in the past had changed, it’s just because of the priorities we have but in the end, friendship still reigns.
-I have reached this age and never been wealthy of material things, but if I would cease to exist now, I’ll forever be thankful that I was given a chance to be wealthy of your friendship. SALAMAT.

SAD LOVE STORY
August 13, 2008As I sat there in English class, I stared at the girl next to me. She was my “best friend”. I stared at her long silky hair, and wished she was mine. But she didn’t notice me like that, and I knew it. After class, she walked up to me and asked for the notes she had missed the day before and handed then to her. She said “thanks” and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I want her to know that I don’t want to be just friends, I love her but I’m just too shy, and I don’t know why.
The phone rang. On the other end, it was her. She was in tears, mumbling on and on about her heart. She asked me to come over because she didn’t want to be alone, so I did. As I sat next to her the sofa, I stared at her soft eyes, wishing she was mine. After two hours, one Drew Barrymore movie, and three bags of chips, she decided to go to sleep. She looked at me, said “thanks” and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I wanted to tell her, I want her to know that I don’t want to be just friends, I love her but I’m just too shy, and I don’t know why.
The day before the prom she walked to my locker. My date is sick, she said; he’s not going to go well, I didn’t have a date, and in the 7th grade, we made a promise that neither us had dates, we would go together just as “best friends”. So we did. Prom night, everything was over, I was standing at her front door step. I stared at her as she smiled at me and stared at me with her crystal eyes. I want her to be mine, but she doesn’t think of me like that, and I know it. Then she said “I had the best time, thanks and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I wanted to tell her, I want her to know that I don’t want to be just friends, I love her but I’m just too shy, and I don’t know why.
A day passed, then a week, then a month. Before I could blink it was graduation day. I watched as her perfect body floated like an angel up on the stage to get her diploma. I wanted her to be mine, but she didn’t notice me like that, and I knew it. Before everyone went home, she came to me in her smock and hat, and cried as I hugged her. Then she lifted her head from my shoulder and said, “You’re my best friend, thanks” and gave me a kissed on the cheek. I wanted to tell her, I want her to know that I don’t want to be just friends, I love her but I’m just too shy, and I don’t know why.
Now I sit in the pews of the church. That girl is getting married now. I watched her say “I do” and drive off to her new life, married to another man. I wanted her to be mine, but she didn’t notice me like that and I knew it. But before she drove away, she came to me and said “you came!” She said “thanks” and gave a kissed on the cheek. I wanted to tell her, I want her to know that I don’t want to be just friends, I love her but I’m just too shy, and I don’t know why. Years passed, I looked down at the coffin of a girl who used to be my “best friend”. At the service, they read a diary entry she had written in her high school years. This is what it read: I stared at him wishing he was mine, but he doesn’t notice me like that, and I want it. I want to tell him, I want him to know that I don’t want to be just friends, I love him but I’m just too shy, and I don’t know why. I wish he would tell me he loved me. I wish I did too. I thought to myself and cried
Some times we let the opportunity to express what we really feel about others pass us by. We say to ourselves “mamaya na lang” , “bukas na lang”, “next time na lang” and the worst “bahala na” or even “time will tell”. Yes, there are valid reasons for putting it off, yet you never know, while you are reading this article you could suddenly collapse and join the Creator! I know it’s Valentines, a time of love and joy. In day to day life we never really express love to our parents, our friends, our special someone, our fellow workers, our neighbor and even our enemies, in a simple gesture of kiss, a hug, a “hi” , “Thank you” or just a simple smile that will brighten someone’s day. We forget to say “I’m sorry” to the people we have offended and hurt with our actions and gestures. We left pass the moment to enjoy with the person who we will never see again. We continuously postpone the moment to answer the call of the Lord, to transcend and discern what He is trying to say and convey.
Then, we will just say to ourselves “SAYANG!” and we will regret it the moment we realize that we have allowed to express ourselves pass by. We will say “

Graduation Time
August 4, 2008Graduation is ritual where you see students in togas marching up in the stage, smiling while a piece of paper is handed to them. It is the prize of four of burning the midnight oils and moving on a race of getting high grades.
In a deeper understanding, graduation marks the end and the beginning. The end of a stage in an individual’s life and the beginning of a new journey. After receiving that valued piece of paper called diploma, a new journey begins to the unknown. But graduating is not just a matter of having diploma, it is more a matter of continuing the struggle and in time, serving others.
Graduation is a ritual of accepting, without exception, bigger boulders ahead. The door to another room is opened. Yet the door that the graduates of Batch 2007-2008 of Hercor College would leave behind will never be closed.
Our Alma mater, our country, have done their part to make us good citizens. When time comes, it would be our turn to server them in return.
Success, after all, comes to those whoa are willing to serve. Service had always been the measure of success…
We must not forget those things that we’ve done in our schools days. Those things that w have shared, problems, laughter’s, disco, singing at the gaisano, and most especially those silly jokes that make as laugh out loud inside and outside the classroom. The game that we use to play, and even quarrels that made our friendship stronger. Classmates this BLOG is dedicated to you so that I’ll always remember all of you. EDUCATION: OPENS PATH TO GOOD LIFE
July 17, 2008“Do you think you’re learning enough? Getting a good education equips one to survive in a competitive world where the ignorant are either pushed into the sidelines or gobbled up by the powerful. Though it is true that not all learning comes from formal schooling, it is still one sure way of making prospective employers aware of a person’s skill. And in today’s competitive society, one needs all the advantages one can get in order to survive, if not to succeed.”
A FIGHTING CHANCE
With many young professionals out there flaunting a Bachelor’s Degree yet remaining unemployed, it is imperative to gain certain skills that would improve one’s chances for a better future.
Although formal education is necessary, there are other aspects to learning which must be addressed. Learning is not just mastering information or a body of knowledge. Students should also plant seeds of honesty, integrity, self-discipline, perseverance, respect for others and responsibility to be able to face challenges more confidently and effectively.
These fundamentals traits are not gleaned from the school, it is the duty o parents to indoctrinate their children with the proper values.
The challenges now is to provide students with all the support they need in developing their self-esteem, critical thinking, decision-making and problem -solving skills in the process of learning, and coming up with positive approaches for setting and achieving goals.
Engaging in extra-curricular activities will help the student tap other learning areas like the development of social, interpersonal, leadership and creative skills. And since the youth face a lot of uncertainties in today’s complex world, adaptability skills should also be acquired. This means teaching them to appreciate change, welcome it and thrive on it.
RIGHT CAREER PATH
Of course, gaining an edge also means being aware of the career paths that are most needed. Pursuing a field that isn’t too overload is a wise move for someone who doesn’t want to end up unemployed. Most of the requirements are for Marketing and Sales due to the pirating of people, aggressive competition, and new market trends; some for human Resources, particularly in Organizational Development, Training and Labor Relations due to constant restructuring of companies as a result of mergers and acquisitions; and some for Costumer Service and Finance.
There is also growing demand for more technical and managerial skills. There is an emergence of new jobs on computers and telecommunications. To get hold of these jobs and survive in today’s fast-paced age of information, it is imperative to gain knowledge on new technological breakthroughs.
EDUCATION FOR ALL
There are scholarships and programs aplenty for any student who isn’t daunted by financial setbacks from getting quality education. The most readily available option is, of course, the public school system where, for a very minimal fee, students can enroll and are provide textbooks. Some NGOs and corporations provide educational assistance as well.
Even private schools offer scholarships grants and financial assistance for low-income students. Government agencies DepEd (elementary & high school) CHED and TESDA ( college ) also provide special education services for students who are unable to complete formal schooling. However, based on studies, the high-tech industry can’t wait for potential candidates to complete a four year degree because of the tight labor market with only a shallow pool of available talents. In the future, therefore, the focus will be an attaining more specific knowledge sets rather than on getting a bachelor’s degree.
This only goes to show that there’s more to learning than academics. Although one can’t go wrong with formal schooling, it is shown that education starts at home, in the family, with parents as the first teacher. And it also won’t hurt to be aware of the wider picture beyond the classroom in order for education to lead a good future, a good life
College Money Matter
June 20, 2008You’ve finally reach the decision all high school seniors have to make. You’ve decided of what course to pursue in college. You’ve chosen the best college to pursue this course in. You proudly come up to your ‘rents and tell them about your one big plan. And that’s when they dish you the all-important ‘rent issue. “Can we afford it?”
No need to go soap operatic and think that the world id crumbling around you. Yes, a college education is astronomically expensive. But that doesn’t mean you can’t ask for help, right? Most of the Colleges right now offer academic scholarship and financial assistance programs to ease your ‘rents buck burden.
There are academic scholarships where the percentage of subsidy (amount you don’t have to pay) depends on your grades in high school. There are also financial assistance programs where students from government and parochial schools receive as mush as 75% subsidy. If you from a private school, they can look at your family’s income and check if your family really can’t afford to pay for your college tuition. In considering scholarships, remember that you have to give something, in return. And most of the time, it’s giving your best in your studies. Scholars usually have higher grades to maintain.
Just talk this over with mom, pop and the college peeps (most probably from the admissions department) and find out what specific program you can apply for. You see, college doesn’t have to be hard on you or your ‘rents pocket.
IMPORTANCE OF EDUCATION
June 16, 2008|
Generally, at the start of a very young age, children learn to develop and use their mental, moral and physical powers, which they acquire through various types of education. Education is commonly referred to as the process of learning and obtaining knowledge at school, in a form of formal education. However, the process of education does not only start when a child first attend school.Education begins at home. One does not only acquire knowledge from a teacher, one can learn and receive knowledge from a parent, family member and even an acquaintance. In almost all societies, attending school and receiving an education is extremely vital and necessary if one wants to achieve sucess. However, unfortunately we have places in the world, where not everyone has an oppotunity to receive this formal type of education. The opportunities that are offered are greatly limited. Sometimes there are not enough resources to provide schooling. Furthermore because parents need their children to help them work in factories, have odd jobs, or just do farm work. Since it is not traditional, in some places to receive a formal education, the one who receive a formal education, the one who receive an education is ussually envied, praised and even admired by members of the community. Learning subject in school is not enough. One can learn history, math, science in school, and be “book-smart”. In addition, one can learn how to live life by knowing what to say when, acting a certain way in a certain situations and be “street-smart”.These two types of education are extremely essetial to be successful in life. |
| Education is the key that allows people to move up in the world, seek better jobs, and ultimately succeed fully in life. Education is very important, and no one should be deprived of it. |
“The chain of education starts from the parents….. school….. teachers”
